Supporting The British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia

Overview

Founded in 1888, The British & Irish Lions bring together the best players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to tour the southern hemisphere every four years. For the Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Men's Tour to Australia 2025, Sokin was named Official Global Payments Partner.

The challenge

A Lions Tour is cross-border by nature. Operating across multiple jurisdictions for a limited, high-pressure window, the Lions needed efficient financial infrastructure to manage complex international payments and currency conversion throughout the tour.

The solution

  • International payments: fast payments to partners and suppliers across borders, with access to local rails.
  • Foreign exchange: FX services to manage GBP and AUD flows across the duration of the tour.
  • Local presence: the partnership coincided with Sokin's launch in Australia, regulated by ASIC and AUSTRAC.

The results

Sokin provided global payment support to help facilitate tour operations and the Lions' international financial requirements, letting the team focus on what happened on the pitch.

"It is great to welcome Sokin to The Lions family as we get ready to head to Australia this summer. There is nothing in world sport quite like a British & Irish Lions Tour and the cross-border and global nature of a Tour means that partners like Sokin are a perfect match."
— Tom Halsey, Chief Commercial Officer, The British & Irish Lions
